Utility Arboriculture Course For New Entrants

Following on from our first two successful courses Wildtrackers Training Wing will be running two short courses for the Utility Arb. Industry

A short fall in suitably qualified personnel was highlighted two years ago and in conjunction with one of our large local contractors we designed a short course to address the issue.
The successful completion of the course enabled the new entrants to gain all the initial skills needed to become part of a commercially efficient team.
The first two and a half weeks of the course concentrates on forestry motor manual skills and general silvicultural awareness; one of the problem areas that has been highlighted by contractors. These base skills are the foundation for all advanced chainsaw work and ensure the safe, efficient and correct handling of the chainsaw. Only when these skills are at a sufficiently high level does the candidate progress firstly into safe use of chippers and Mewps; then onto the utility side and finally tree climbing.

The qualifications you’ll earn throughout the course are as follows:

Award in the Safe Manual Handling of Objects, Award in First Aid at Work, 002012 (CS30/31) Level 2 Award in Ground Based Chainsaw Operator, Level 3 Certificate of Competence UA1, 0020-57 Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of a Manually Fed Wood-Chipper, Level 3 Certificate of Competence UA2.2 & 2.3, 0017-02 (MEWP) Level 2 Award in Safe Use of a Mobile Elevated Work Platform, 0020-13 (CS38) Level 2 Award in Tree Climbing and Rescue.

The course takes place over 9 consecutive weeks and places are available on the next two courses starting in May and again at the end of September
*cost inclusive of VAT, assessment and administration fees.
